I love Christmas music. Old, new, it doesn't matter. Growing up in
kid choir at church meant we learned the stories behind the carols we
sang. I remember so many of these stories and have fact checked many of
them over the years with the invention of the internet. :) Check back
each day for a new carol and story! I'll be including a video of one
of my favorite versions of the carol as well. Grab the button and share
the fun with your friends!
December 8th: I Saw Three Ships
Some carols are much older, all the way to the Middle Ages. No one knows the person who wrote this one, but it's believed that traveling minstrels in England put together this tune and various lyrics that have been linked to this title. Lucky for us the ships no longer carry the skulls of the wise men to the Koln (Cologne) Cathedral. Ugh! Our version talks about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Now there's a prettier Christmas image!
I saw three ship come sailing in,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
I saw three ship come sailing in,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And what was in those ships all three?
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And what was in those ships all three?
on Christmas Day in the morning.
Our Saviour Christ and His lady,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
Our Saviour Christ and His lady,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And where they sailed those ships all three?
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And where they sailed those ships all three?
on Christmas Day in the morning.
All they sailed in to Bethlehem,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
All they sailed in to Bethlehem,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And all the bells on earth shall ring,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And all the bells on earth shall ring,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And all the angels in heaven shall sing,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And all the the angels in heaven shall sing,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And all the souls on earth shall sing,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And all the souls on earth shall sing,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
And let us all rejoice again,
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
And let us all rejoice again,
on Christmas Day in the morning.
