This little guy turns one in just over a week. Umm...? Time, please stop! Since we'll be on the other side of the world on his birthday, we decided to celebrate the big one two weeks early. We'd been in Ohio until just a few days before his scheduled party and were leaving again less than a week later, so I needed a low key affair that would satisfy the family. Pool party it was!
Of course this week was the hottest week of the summer, but the breeze showed up, the shade was present, and the water was refreshing. We bought an incredible inflatable, baby splash pad to take to the pool, and we brought over the baby's pirate ship splash table. It was just the right amount of entertainment for the 38 amazing people who came to celebrate the little guy.
No pool party is complete without hot dogs, hamburgers, salad of some sort, and fruit. Isaac had wanted to make this awesome giraffe cake, but he was summoned to Wisconsin between our trip to Ohio and the party, so we made do with Daddy-made cupcakes. They were delicious and actually pretty perfect for a 1st birthday.
Since we accidentally turned this entire year into a safari theme for our little guy, we stuck with it and carried it through into his party. He loves those animals, so he didn't care. I had a little station for the kids to decorate goody bags with animal stickers and markers. Then I filled them with a few summer fun, safari themed items while they played.
It was so good to visit with family and friends. It's been a busy summer, so a few uninterrupted hours of fellowship was much needed for our little family.
We asked friends to donate to ACE or Preemptive Love in Man Cub's honor for his birthday. These two ministries are near and dear to our hearts. The family showered the little guy with a few incredible gifts. Mama and Geno got him a rocking giraffe to keep at their house. Aunt LaLa and Uncle David stole the show with the Bat Man car. Oh, my, word! That boy is in heaven!
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate our little guy and to all of those who have been sending precious wishes for him from near and far. He is one loved, blessed little boy, and I think the daily joy fest he has demonstrates his knowledge of this. We pray God always uses him for His glory!

Looks like so much fun! I love the cupcakes... that looks like grass on there! Awesome. Makes me want to take a dip in the pool.
