Zoos don't get old for our family, and they are awesome ways to keep a little guy entertained while the grownups chat. Thanks to our Houston Zoo membership, we get free or 1/2 off admission at dozens of zoos in the nation. Woohoo!
It didn't take long to decide that an afternoon at the Cincy Zoo was a great way to get to hang out with Bonnie and Jacob. They're both working crazy hours right now, so some time outside and some time visiting were needed by all of us.
Man Cub was on Cloud 9 to be at another zoo 2 times in one week. He hammed it up for us until he finally crashed in the stroller. We saw gorillas, chimps, tigers, the cutest lion triplets, giraffes, eagles, manatees, polar bears, and red pandas. Best of all, the little guy got to love on his uncle and 'aunt', and we were able to enjoy them as well.
The most exciting part of the day was this sweet girl. We found her lolling around in her pond, enjoying a soak. Her back was to us, so we were about to walk away, but before we could, she turned and started rolling. Then she went completely under, using her trunk for a snorkel. After she was done swimming, she decided she needed a snack, and the vines between her and us looked delicious. If we had wanted, we could have reached out to stroke her trunk. It was hard not to, but we didn't want to ruin the moment either! What an unexpected little encounter with an Asian elephant!
